Explaining The Process
A Brief Explanation of Our Rust-Proofing Process
Rustproofing is the process of applying rust-inhibiting chemicals, waxes or sealers to the underside and inside of the vehicle's body as well as any other rust-prone areas. Not to be confused with undercoating which treats only the underside of the vehicle.
The RustProofing Process
Vehicle Preparation Prior To Rustproofing
- Put in floor mat covers, seat covers, and windshield wiper covers to protect your vehicle
- We will give your vehicle a light rinse to remove any light dust or build-up of snow and ice. (Please make sure you give your car a thorough washing, including under body and wheelwells, before bringing it in for your rustproofing application. There may be an extra charge if we have to take your vehicle to the carwash or take the time to scrub it clean!)
- We will then circle the vehicle and do a complete check for abrasions, dents, surface rust, torn trim, accident damage, questionable bodywork, etc.
Rustproofing: Inner Body Pannels
- Our extensively trained technician will then use existing factory openings (drain holes, vents, door mechanisms, etc.) to rustproof inner body pannels.
- The inner body pannels include the doors, rocker pannels, windshield pillar, center pillar - on four door models, rear pillar, front fenders, the hood, the trunk lid, and sliding doors.
Rustproofing: the Topside
- The technician will then move on to rustproofing the topside of the vehicle and all sides of the hood, including the edges and underside.
Rustproofing the Underside
- Using a spray wand, our expert will rustproof around the wheel wells, behind the tires, and around the shock towers. He will then work his way from front to back, rustproofing all enclosed such as in both front and rear bumpers, inside cross members and framing, all body supports, over the heat shield, over gas tank, front fender opening, and any other enclosed areas.
- Next, we use the rustproofing gun to start applying the product from the front end toward the rear of your vehicle. Apply a thin, uniform layer to all exposed areas of the undercarriage.
- Once the undercarriage has been rustproofed from front to rear he will start at the rear of the vehicle and work back toward the front, checking the surfaces for adequate coverage and will rustproof any missed areas.
- When the process is complete, a member from the service department will notify you that your vehicle is ready to be picked up.
